I’ve Got the Blues

28 Oct

Today, I am feeling blue. Not in a bad way though. I’ve recently been in love with all things nautical. (Which I am now convinced is mandatory for any vintage loving gal.) I’ve amassed several such items over the years and to keep from overflowing, I’ve added many pieces of my personal collection to the shop. Here are just a few that are there, and keep a look out for more!!

Navy Shoes Blues

Navy Shoes Blues: Canvas shoes are the perfect laid back answer to stilettos. Unfortunately for me, they were a little to snug for anything but taking pictures.

Mod Hatter

The Mod Hatter: I acquired this hat several years ago, but because I’m more Elizabeth Taylor rather than Twiggy, it got little use. I still think it’s lovely, but it needs someone to love it.

Blue Belle

Blue Belle: This dress is a great canvas for all your nautical looks. I wore it with a ‘kerchief around my neck a la’ retro flight stewardess. It’s really an easy care piece; throw it on and go, toss it in the wash, dry and repeat!

Nautical Juice Glasses

Nautical Juice Glasses: These pulled together my love for all things nautical and retro in my kitchen. Would be perfect in your coastal kitchen or on your yacht, of course.

So Lovely Feature

1 Oct

I was thrilled today when I got a message in my inbox that an item from The Atomic Squirrel had been featured on Oh So Lovely Vintage’s blog. Today’s post was about vintage bar ware! TONS of retro eye candy. If you’ve never checked out their site, you should. These vintage loving gal’s have good taste, clearly they picked one of my items.

The Parson’s Table (aka The Wedding Venue That Wasn’t)

20 Jul

The hunt is on for a venue to host our upcoming wedding. This is proving to be a rather difficult feat. All we want is a quirky place that reflects who we are. Is that too much to ask? Evidently so.

Lo! There was The Parson’s Table! I thought perhaps we had found the place!

This beautiful church built sometime in the 1870’s is in historic Jonesboro. It hasn’t served as a church for some while. It’s just quirky enough and is placed in a beautiful setting that has perfect colours in the Fall.

How could one not fall in love with this place!?

Early 50’s wedges – thrifted (These are my favorite shoes right now. I wish I had more colours)

Unfortunately for us (and them! Just think of what a fabulous wedding we are to have!) they are only fulfilling their reservations already booked through this year, and are making no commitments to hosting any new events.

So the search is still on for a site to hold our awesome wedding. Since I’m not from this area the local hidden gems are, well, still hidden. So by all means, let me know of neat places we can go look at in East Tennessee.

Oh, this was the only picture I snagged of my whole outfit.

Rosemary Libation

So I stumbled upon some old drink recipes and found a new favorite. I love playing hostess and part of that is having a handful of recipes that you know by heart and are quick to make. I made some changes from the original and thought I’d share this great drink with you!

I’m pretty sure this will be my go-to cocktail for summer get togethers from now on. It’s so easy to make. I hope you enjoy it. If you try it be sure to let me know what you think.

Cheers!

Dashed Daydreams

21 Mar

So excited when I saw this. I envisioned it in my loft. Friends over, sitting, laughing, cocktails, movie night with Thomas,…..

…..and then my dreams were dashed!

It had to have been in some formal living room, covered in plastic, since it was brought home. PERFECT. Went to the counter, I told the lady I wanted it….someone had just bought them. They literally just seconds before paid for it.

So I just went and took pictures, then tried to buy it off the man who purchased it. No luck….at least it was cheaper this way and I didn’t have to haul them and carry them up my stairs.

Couldn’t wait for Autumn

20 Mar

I’ve been severely under the weather for the past week. Like, could barely get out of bed sick. So I have tons of errands to catch up on. I’m still not quite up to snuff, but better. I refuse to go out looking like I actually feel, and I know wearing pretty things makes me feel better, even if it’s merely an illusion. So the focal point of today’s outfit is a fun late 50’s early 60’s batik print dress with a fantastic scalloped edge running around the collar and down the front. (I really bought it to wear this Autumn.) I paired it with an orangey-red straw hat, geometric plastic beaded necklace, brown leather belt, my new favorite cat-eyed shades and 60’s wedge shoes. I’m still on the lookout for coloured Bakelite bangles to pair with this. Since it’s such a busy print, I didn’t want to wear a brooch.
